Joanne’s “Memphis Design” Inspired Party – 1st Birthday

Memphis Design Theme Party Ideas

Squiggles, wacky geometry and zany patterns; an explosion of colors and unorthodox design – these characterize the Memphis design movement. And like the group of rebel designers who founded Memphis in a cramped little apartment in Milan, event stylist Khim Cruz and her team channeled their creative juices to produce a fun geometric world for Joanne’s first birthday. The unusual combination of colors, shapes and patterns of Memphis designs evoke excitement. It must be the same for Joanne, her family and guests who experienced her quirky Memphis-inspired birthday bash.

The organized chaos in the ceiling is a “visual buffet”. Bright gold tassels contrast with the baby pink and powder blue colors of the honeycomb paper balls. Random geometric shapes with the characteristic squiggles and static patterns are offset by black paper lanterns.

The combination of pastel color palette with the striking gold and solid black hues continues with the stylish Memphis-inspired stage. Like Art Deco pieces, two golden flamingos stand among randomly placed geometric shapes in a sea of pink and peach balloons.

The tables were clothed with crisp white and peach linens, and patterned table runners in black and white. A centerpiece of flowers in soft pastel and bold bright colors completed the Memphis touch – from purple hydrangeas, pink orchids, white roses and aster to bright orange and yellow carnations.

Joanne’s cake is a sweet concoction that seems to defy gravity. Balancing on the first cake layer covered in a graph-like fondant is a cube with the characteristic squiggles and black accents. Poised on the cube is a white and gold sphere and on the sphere is an inverted pyramid. Blue and pink pineapples on palm fronds and a solitary gold flamingo are highlights to this unconventional Memphis-style cake.

Every chewy, sugary delight in their dessert spread is sure to make everyone’s sweet dreams come true. There were cupcakes decked with zany geometric shapes that mimicked those on the birthday cake, chocolate lollipops and cake pops shaped like golden flamongos.

As if the catered food and the dessert spread isn’t enough, Joanne’s guests also enjoyed other treats from a line of food carts – from everyone’s favorite French fries from Potato Corner, Magnolia ice cream, and several choices of fruit drinks to fluffy, sugary cotton candy.

Guests took Instagram-worthy photos in a dreamy cloud-like photowall made of clusters of peach, pink and white balloons.

Wonderful prizes like bubble guns, bags of chocolate candies and pillows made the games even more exciting. Add to these cool prizes the cute drawstring bags full of goodies that went home on the shoulders of Joanne’s young guests.

  1. The party decoration is really perfect. As a parent, we always want to have a party like this for our kids because we know that our children will remember it for the rest of their life.
