50’s Diner Theme party Ideas
Is that Elvis’s Jailhouse Rock playing on the jukebox? If you’re cranked to swing in those poodle skirts and bobby socks or bust a groove in those blue jeans and saddle shoes, then check out Adreena’s 50’s-era birthday celebration. You’re in for one great nostalgia kick…
Quintessential 50’s pop culture is all about the jitterbug and rock ‘n roll, the allure of the night sky and drive-in cinemas, cool guys with hot rides, and preppy gals in ponytails and loafers. However, the diners with their checker board polyvinyl table tops and matching stools, plus burgers and milk shakes on the menu, may well be the most classic of everything from the 1950s.The rock star stylists from With A Flourish, pull out all the stops to recreate Dree’s one-of-a-kind 50’s retro sock hop. There sure is a lot of metamorphosing going on and Nicolai Melicor Photography will razz your berries with their impressive photos of the big event.
Let’s go back in time with Dree’s stage, all jazzed up as a 50’s diner. The scene is set with a jukebox and a soda machine replica. Behind the counter is an image of Dree, the diner host, ready to serve a strawberry milkshake. The high-leg stools typical of soda fountains, ketchup and mustard dispensers on the counter, coca cola in vintage bottles and posters of the best items of the menu are but a clever touch that adds to the 50’s vibe.
Under a string of balloons and buntings in sweet dainty hues, the tables are dressed in pastel pink table cloth and baby blue pin-striped runners. Each table is decked out with a centerpiece that consists of a soda caddy, Dree’s Diner menu, ketchup and mustard dispensers, and a stand-in for the real scoop of ice cream and sundae.
Dree’s Jukebox cake is flawless – covered in smooth, seamless, almost porcelain-like fondant in the same pastel hues used on the stage jukebox replica. It is indeed a masterful creation by Tazzy Cakes.
Set against a soda fountain backdrop, Dree’s dessert spread is every sweet tooth’s dream. It’s a feast for the eyes and a party in the mouth. A bite from any of these sweet treats will take you to 7th heaven, from the donuts smothered in royal icing, blueberry tarts, cakepops, cookies and cupcakes to the marshmallows, pinwheel lollipops and gummy candies. All these lovely desserts are straight out of the ovens of Vanilla bakery Café.
Guests pretend to go “hot-rodding” behind this sweet pink and blue Cadillac for a photo that is both unforgettable and, in urban-speak, is “instagrammable”.
Be sure to check out Dree’s matching photo gallery.
What a great way to say “Thank you for coming!” – Dree’s young guests each get a specially designed knapsack with their names on it.
Here’s the adorable birthday girl with her doting dad and mom, all dressed in their ‘50s diner attire. What a beautiful family indeed!
