Maia’s Under the Sea Themed Party – 1st Birthday

Mermaid Theme Party Ideas

The theme Under the Sea will always be one of our favorite themes, because admit it, every girl’s fantasy is to become a mermaid once in their lives. Today’s feature is fitting to the birthday girl’s name – Arielle. Though her name is made with a little twist, it’s still quite close to the beloved Disney character Ariel of The Little Mermaid. Just like today’s bash, the event was styled with more girlishness and cool hues of pastels, thanks to the amazing team of Sugar and Sunbeams. Don’t worry, Matt Lee Shoots doesn’t have to use an underwater camera to capture some of our favorite snaps. So come with us under the sea where it’s better, take it from me, er, Sebastian!

Look at the invite, isn’t it neat? It has waves, scales, starfishes and seaweeds galore, as Arielle requests the pleasure of your company as she turns a year older.

An arch decorated with seaweeds in girly shades of pink, lavender and white were used to welcome the guests inside. Golden Japanese lanterns made the whole installation stand out.

Once you step inside, it’s a whole different ball game because pastel-colored Japanese lanterns absolutely made us feel we’re dreaming underwater, a girly one at that!

Festooned with drapes and buntings, the ceiling décor totally crushed the theme. We love the hanging capiz shells at the center, but we’re digging the jellyfishes too!

Sugar and Sunbeams totally outdid themselves this time on the show-stopping stage! It was an eclectic mix of floating jellyfishes, Japanese lanterns that mimic bubbles, and dangling capiz shells to tastefully complete the scene. Up close, the creative team painted our favorite sea critters in dainty shades of pink, lavender, and mint. It was a dash and splash of pastel-colored creatures on enchanting greens!

Some of the great sea finds – treasure chests, golden bottles, and framed photo of little Arielle, simply adorn the tables of guests. Understated, but nonetheless charming!

Take a step back and revel at the beauty of the dessert buffet table by Sweet Creations by Mums, aside from the sweets, of course! Set amidst a turquoise table and a backdrop of bubbly balloons, and seaweed cutouts, truly, it’s a sight to SEA! Mind you, mermaids don’t have unicorns but golden seahorses.

sweets

Delightful and fancy are two words that best describe the three-tiered cake topped with our fave mermaid, Ariel sitting on her sea throne. Ombre shades of mint, accented with lavender, seaweeds, starfish, and bubbles, made for a whimsical confection that’s too beautiful to slice.

The sweets spread is an assortment of sugar cookies, mallows, Oreo pops and macarons all in dainty hues and adorned with shells and starfishes! And those cupcakes topped with fancy mermaid tails are too good to devour in one bite! Grab one before they swim away!

Ariel took some time out of the sea and invited some of her fellow Disney princesses to grace the birthday bash. Belle, Elsa, Moana, and Ariel entertained the kids with their performances. Who wouldn’t be awed in the presence of princesses?

An under-the-sea party is not complete without an underwater backdrop for the photobooth. Smile and snap a photo with some of our coral friends!

A celebration is never complete without food carts for everyone to enjoy, both sweet and savory. We’re sure the kids loved the goodies at the scramble and cotton candy carts, but here at PDM, we’re digging the stands’ seaweeds and treasure chest décor, making it cohesive with the overall party theme.
